By no accident, the Carroll Villa Hotel has been the fortunate benefactor of local artist, Judy Wietsma. Judy, owner of A Second Look Interior Design of Cape May, has taken the time to share with us a glimpse into her passion and her expertise.
With a quick look around the hotel, you will see many examples of Judy’s beautiful creations. Headboards, bureaus, fireplaces and frames, her techniques can be used on any piece of wooden furniture. Judy has embraced painting and is truly a master of her painting techniques. “By giving new life to a piece of furniture my work unites form, function and livability,” explains Judy. “My paint of choice is Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (R) due to its ease of application, versatility and durability. After painting, each piece of furniture is hand-waxed giving it a polished, professional feel and allows the furniture finish to stand up to everyday use. The pieces I have done for the Carroll Villa Hotel are a testament to that fact. Giving new life to an old fireplace changes the feel of the room while maintaining the traditional classic look. Decorating trends change over time, but the classics are always in style.”
