Welcome back friends! Here in Cape May, NJ we are still wading through the waters of Covid-19. Our hotel is still closed until further notice. Our restaurant, the Mad Batter, is currently open Wednesday to Monday, 9am to 5pm for take out only. You can find our menu on our restaurant website! As innkeepers who look forward to meeting new and returning guests on a daily basis, it’s a tough time! We miss our normal routine but are trying to do our part to keep people safe. This is a time when we would be gearing up for an incredible summer. We are however, looking at uncertain times at the moment, and not totally sure what will be open and available. This is a sad thought for us and visitors so for today, we wanted to share a few ideas on how you can remain positive during uncertain times.
Feeling down? Boost your spirits with these tips!
Connect with friends and family – Living like you are alone on an island can lead to feelings of depression and loneliness. Staying connected to those you love will keep your spirits up and help the positivity stay alive no matter what you are going through. With the variety of technology, we have at our fingertips today, it’s so easy to see friends and family face to face. Whether you are across the street, across miles or spanning different countries, make the effort to stay connected during tough times.
Focus on what you can do – What we can’t do or are not allowed to do is what most are focused on these days. Focus on what you can do to remain positive during uncertain times. It’s a perspective shift that sees life with a “cup half full” lens rather than a “cup half empty” one. Try to find the silver lining amidst the adversity.
Have an attitude of gratitude – This one is similar to the one above as it centers around what you choose to focus on. Looking for things to be thankful and grateful for will promote positivity rather than focusing on all the things that get you down. There are gifts in everyday – can you find them? Being able to wake up alive and healthy, having amazing family and friends, food and clothing, sunshine, blooming flowers in your backyard…there is always something to be thankful for!
Get moving – Exercise releases endorphins, serotonin and other helpful chemicals in your brain. So, do what works best for you! Exercise can make a big difference even though it may seem like the last thing you want to do. In addition to keeping fit, exercise will help take your mind off your worries and keep the negativity at bay.
Be intentional in creating a happy space – This will be different for everyone. What kinds of things make you feel happy and at peace? Perhaps adding some fresh flowers, a new coat of bright paint, some lighting or candles. Display some sentimental items around your home, or get creative and make and hang some personal art. The sky is the limit but do what you can to remain positive during uncertain times.
We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during this time. We will continue to look forward to opening and hosting guests once again. Until then, you can book your future getaway online.
