Whale Watching
The Delaware Bay attracts whales with its rich marine life. The whales come and go to feed so they are highly visible throughout the year. The spring is a great opportunity to take a less crowded whale-watching cruise with the Cape May Whale Watcher tours. Cape May Whale Watcher offers whale and dolphin watching day cruises that include the captain pointing out not only the whales and dolphins but also interesting facts on other marine life and local history. The cruises last around three hours and parking is free at Miss Chris Marina.
Drive the Cape May Wine Trail
How about an afternoon of wine tasting at a gorgeous vineyard? The Cape May Wine Trail is 19-miles long, and a leisurely drive brings you through some of the most beautiful scenic shorelines in South Jersey. Some of the wineries near our hotel include Hawk Haven Vineyard & Winery, Cape May Winery and Vineyard, and Willow Creek Winery & Farm to name just a few. Come and find your new favorite!
Visit the Craft Shows
Cape May has an abundance of Craft and Collectible Shows! The season begins in April at the Emlin Physick Estate. You will find high-quality crafts and collectible shows from vendors and crafters throughout the Northeast.
Stroll the Beaches
The languid warmth and burst of the colorful spring landscape against the backdrop of Cape May beaches make this area a memorable place for a getaway. One perk of the off-season is that beach tags aren’t required yet. There is something about being near water that just calms the soul. Bring a blanket and have a picnic, catch a sunrise or sunset, or pack a frisbee for some fun on the shore. With smaller crowds, you can bring a kite and try your hand at flying it!
Climb the Cape May Lighthouse
First lit in 1859, the Cape May Lighthouse opened to the public in 1988. It is a top attraction in the area and has since seen millions of visitors. Ride the trolley from downtown and hike to the top of the lighthouse or explore the walking trails nearby. Don’t forget to visit the Museum Shop filled with books, souvenirs, and maritime items.
Enjoy a Dinner Out
During the spring, you’ll also experience fewer crowds at your favorite restaurants! Of course, we also have a restaurant right here at our hotel called the Mad Batter. Our award-winning restaurant has been serving the community for 40 years. It’s a breakfast-to-dinner bistro with a fun, cozy atmosphere. Enjoy Happy Hour with live music every night and “Open Mic” night on Sundays.
